Where Irish cash actually earns
Leave €10,000 sitting in a PTSB online instant access and it earns €1 a year. The best instant access rate on this page pays €310. The best rate that lump sum can get without locking it away for years, Raisin · BluOr Bank at 3.23%, pays €323. Same money, same year. The only difference is knowing the table below.
The short answer

- Raisin · Deutsche Bausparkasse Badenia Fixed term deposit: 3.30% AER

- Best regular saver
- AIB Online Saver: 3.00% AER
- Best tax free
- An Post State Savings 10 Year National Solidarity Bond: 2.01% AER
Every rate on this page was read from the provider's own site. Last verified 1 August 2026.

How to read this table
AER, not headline rate
AER is the one number that lets accounts be compared fairly. Regular savers advertise rates that only ever apply to a growing balance, so the cash you actually receive is roughly half what the headline suggests. We list AER and state the caps.
The DIRT column
Irish banks take 33% of your interest before you see it. Most non-Irish banks hand you everything and leave the tax to you, which is fine if you know, and a Revenue letter if you don't. State Savings pay no DIRT at all. No other Irish comparison spells this out per account.
What gets taken abroad
Some countries tax your interest before it ever leaves their banking system. Latvia takes 25.5%, Portugal 28%, Lithuania 15%, each reducible with paperwork. Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and Sweden take nothing. That happens before DIRT, so two accounts with the same AER can pay very different money. We put it in a column because nobody else does.
Whose guarantee
Every account names its actual protection: the Irish Deposit Guarantee Scheme, another EU country's scheme, or the Irish State itself. The €100,000 limit is per person per institution, so spreading large balances matters more than chasing the last 0.1%.
Questions Irish savers actually ask
- Which bank pays 7% interest in Ireland?
- None. No deposit account open to Irish savers pays 7%. Rates like that appear in ads for regular savers with low monthly caps, or for products that are not deposits at all. The honest ceiling right now is on this page, with a date beside it.
- Where should I put a lump sum in Ireland?
- For money you might need tomorrow, the best instant access rate wins. For money you can lock away, fixed terms pay more, and State Savings pay less on paper but nothing is taken in DIRT, which changes the comparison. Our deposit rates page ranks the lump sum options.
- Is my money safe in a non-Irish bank?
- EU banks belong to their own national deposit guarantee schemes, harmonised at €100,000 per person per bank. The protection column in our table names the actual scheme for every account, because "covered by a guarantee" means little without knowing whose.
- Do I pay tax on savings interest in Ireland?
- Yes. DIRT takes 33% of interest on most deposits. Irish banks withhold it before you see the money; most non-Irish banks do not, so you declare it yourself. State Savings are exempt entirely. Our DIRT page covers the rate, the exemptions and the paperwork.
Method and sources
Every rate is read by hand from the provider's own published rate page, never from another comparison site, and each row shows the date we last did so. Between verification passes a provider can move first; the source link on each row goes to the page that decides. Saver.ie is maintained by the team behind income.ie and etf.ie. Primary references: Revenue.ie · State Savings · Central Bank of Ireland · Citizens Information
Saver.ie is information, not financial advice, and we are not a broker. Every link goes straight to the provider. Nothing here accounts for your personal circumstances.
